Murders in "Mississippi Burning"
After a while, here I am with a movie called Mississippi Burning about the Civil Rights Movement and Racism.
Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s was aimed at ending the racial
segregation between black people and white people. Some people like Martin
Luther King, Rosa Parks, make a tremendous effort to stop this segregation.
There are many movies about Civil Right Movements to show how people fight for their rights and freedom and one of the impressing movies is Mississippi Burning which tells how white society continue attacking, killing black people and some people tries to prevent this situation. When I watched the Mississippi Burning; I was shocked and got angry at the white society of America because of being so cruel and immoral.
The movie was produced in 1988 and directed by Alan Parker. The story
tells the murders of three civil rights workers who are two Jewish and one
black in the state of Mississippi. FBI comes and investigates the missing three
workers. Agents are Alan Ward and Rupert Anderson. They try to contact local people yet they don’t want to talk because sheriff and his deputies suppress all of them. Besides the officers, there is a gang called Ku Klux Klan. KKK members attack black people, burn their house, and kill them. After a while, a young black boy says something about the fault of officers to Ward, and then
Ward and Anderson plan to reveal the KKK and the other criminals. The members who are also officers are caught and imprisoned. Even their cemeteries are separated yet at the end when we see the African- American cemetery; we
understand that there are some white people supporting them in their fight for
freedom.
In the movie, we also see that the white officers behave impudently not
only to blacks but also to their own race. One of them beats his wife up and
some of them watch while he is beating. They condone the situation; they
believe they deserve this treatment. In KKK members’ eye African-American
people are not citizens of America and they are not the human being. They are rigid racist people and they vandalize their house and family. They don’t want to be equal or live with them yet America is not only their home but America also embraces all races, religious and language. This situation shocks me and I can’t believe how people hurt the other people even if not white, whatever their race is they are human beings and they have the first right to‘life’.
Enjoy the show!
